Warmest congratulations. Take a breath, celebrate properly, and soak in the news with the people who love you. When you’re ready to plan, the first big decision is often the venue — and in Sydney, popular dates can book out 12–18 months ahead.

I’m Janet Lomax, a Sydney marriage celebrant. Couples often ask me what to clarify with a venue before they pay a deposit. These questions keep the conversation practical and kind — so you protect your budget, your guest experience, and the ceremony itself.

Venue availability & timing

Confirm the calendar before you fall in love with the room.

Ask about dates and schedule

Is our preferred wedding date available?
If we’re flexible, what alternative dates work?
Does the venue host more than one wedding that day?
What is the ceremony start window, and how long do we have the space?
When can suppliers access the site for setup and pack-down?
Are there noise, music or curfew restrictions we should know about?

Menus, drinks & guest comfort

Useful prompts: catering packages and upgrades, BYO rules, cakeage, children’s meals, and whether the venue can manage allergies clearly on the day.

If your celebration includes cultural food traditions, share that early so the kitchen and service team can support you properly.
