Sydney · Blue Mountains · Southern Highlands commitment ceremonies

Celebrate your love with a warm, personal ceremony without the legal marriage paperwork.

A commitment ceremony is a heartfelt celebration of your relationship and the promises you are making to each other. It can feel just as emotional as a wedding — with personal vows, readings and rituals — while remaining a symbolic ceremony rather than a legal marriage under Australian law.

Couples choose this path for many reasons: personal preference, timing, cultural considerations, or simply wanting a beautiful day focused on love rather than legal formalities. I create inclusive ceremonies for all couples across Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands.

Your commitment ceremony, shaped with freedom

Personal vows, meaningful rituals, and a day that sounds like you

Because a commitment ceremony is not a legal marriage, we have wonderful freedom to create something completely authentic. Together we shape the introduction, readings, your vows, a ring exchange if you wish, blessings, and any rituals you love — handfasting, sand ceremony, candle lighting, or something uniquely yours.

Invite friends and family as readers or witnesses, blend families warmly, or keep the gathering intimate. The ceremony stays focused on your story and the life you are choosing together.

If you later decide you would like to marry legally, I can also guide you through a civil wedding ceremony when the time is right.

Commitment ceremony FAQs

Questions & answers couples often ask before we meet

What is a commitment ceremony?
A heartfelt celebration of your relationship and the promises you are making — personal, symbolic and as emotional as a wedding, without being a legal marriage under Australian law.
Is a commitment ceremony legally binding in Australia?
No. It does not create the same legal status as marrying under the Marriage Act. The focus stays on story, emotion and the celebration you want to share.
Who are commitment ceremonies for?
Any couple who wants to honour their relationship in a warm, inclusive way — including couples who want a meaningful celebration now, are blending families, or prefer a symbolic ceremony over a legal wedding.
Can we include personal vows and rituals?
Yes. Personal vows, readings, ring exchanges, family blessings, handfasting, sand ceremonies and other rituals are all warmly welcome.
Where can we hold a commitment ceremony?
Almost anywhere that feels right — harbour foreshores, gardens, private homes, beach settings, the Blue Mountains or the Southern Highlands. Browse the locations pages or tell me your venue.
How long does a commitment ceremony usually run?
Typically around 20–30 minutes, depending on readings, rituals and guest involvement. We'll shape the length together.
Can we marry legally later?
Absolutely. If you later decide you would like a civil marriage, I can guide you through a legal wedding ceremony and the required paperwork when you're ready.
How do we start planning with you?
Send a note via the contact page with your preferred date and ideas. We'll arrange a friendly chat in Balmain or on Zoom — no obligation.
